From our quarterly NWTI Board of Directors' Meeting last week... Our Pledge of Allegiance was led by Leticia Pineda, originally from Guanajuato, Mexico. She has been attending English classes at our Adult Education Center since 2021, progressing from level 1 all the way to level 3. Her leadership in the classroom, where she actively encourages her peers to attend classes on a regular basis, and persevere in pursuing their dreams, matches her dedication as a student. Currently employed at Springdale Public Schools, Mrs. Pineda is determined to improve her English skills to advance her career and achieve even greater success. Our Employee of the quarter is Gloria Caldera. Gloria was a previous NWTI Adult Education Center student. She is a graduate of our Administrative Assistant Diploma Program. She was hired here at NWTI in 2017 as an Administrative Specialist. She is a great asset in continuing the success of our programs. Our Teacher of the Quarter is Michael Lingerfeldt. Mike came to NWTI from industry in 2021 to teach in our Industrial Maintenance Program. He has a passion for our students, and the knowledge they receive from being here at NWTI. Bonus: he's a Harley rider!

NWTI welcomed Springdale High School's Kristin Novotny and her students from SHS's Bilingual Service Learning (BCSL) and Spanish For Professions (EPyC) programs for a "Talk & Tour" today! The tour is split into two groups, one today and one tomorrow, to make it easier for everyone to get around our campus and get time with our instructors. Shay Lastra from our Student Services Department was the tour guide, and she did her usual outstanding job! In recognition of National Surgical Technologists Week, NWTI would like to express our sincere appreciation for all surgical technology educators. ARC/STSA provides accreditation services to our communities that validate excellence of educational programs to advance the profession and ensure quality patient care. But CRITICAL SHORTAGES of surgical technologists have contributed to an increase in hospital-based alternative training which does not meet the standards associated with a fully accredited surgical technology education program. These alternative pathways do not meet the long established and required curriculum for surgical technologist education and are not the answer to alleviate workforce shortages- particularly in a critical patient care area like the operating room. While progress has been made, much work is in front of us, especially with workforce shortages in many states. Please take the time to read the linked statement that outlines the value of accredited surgical technology programs, the challenges that the profession faces. We encourage you to share this statement with your school administrators, program advisory committee members, clinical affiliates, local community hospitals, as well as state assemblies and state leadership. On Monday, NWTI Instructor Galen Cronin and his HVAC class took a field trip to Shearer Supply. Opened in 1983, Shearer Supply is a regional, family-owned and operated business that is an HVAC distributor of equipment and supplies. The class got to tour the "Samsung Technology Truck." At TMCSuper Tech and TMCFuture Tech 2024 held in Raleigh, NC., NWTI's Medium/Heavy Truck Diesel Program was represented by current student - Levi Skaggs, and June 2024 graduate - Allyson Zamayoa . Both participated in Future Tech: Diesel Truck Repair. TMC stands for "Technology & Maintenance Council." Future Tech is TMC's NATIONAL Student Technician Competition and it consists of a set of 15 hands-on skill stations for technician students. Allyson and Levi competed against 18 other students from around the country. Winners were announced at the TMCSuperTech Awards Banquet. Allyson finished 1st at the "Electronic Engine Diagnostics" station, and 11th overall. Accompanied by Department Chair Tony Peachee, both her and Levi represented our school with distinction, and Levi even got some time on one of TMC's YouTube videos (check the 1:08 mark)! https://youtu.be/X8SCsSOA7og These tech's come from all over America to compete, so join us in congratulating our outstanding team. CONSTITUTION DAY 2024. We celebrated and commemorated the day here at NWTI over the students' lunch break. What is Constitution Day you say? Constitution Day is an American federal observance that recognizes the adoption of the United States Constitution and those who have become U.S. citizens. It is normally observed on September 17, the day in 1787 that delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the document in Philadelphia. We had literature about America, voting and more, including a trivia contest complete with "fabulous prizes!" We're coming up on some of the last days in our Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Program for this group of students. Instructor Lonnie O'Bryant likes to have a few class pictures snapped from time to time, and this morning was one of those times!
