Northwest Technical Institute, in partnership with Univision Arkansas, annually awards two LEAP scholarships.  These full-tuition scholarships are awarded to area Hispanic high school graduates or GED graduates to assist with the financial expenses of attending Northwest Technical Institute the following school year.  The scholarship will pay for NTI tuition expenses for a diploma program of the student’s choice.

The first Friday in May

The scholarship may be used for any NTI program; however, being a scholarship recipient does not ensure placement in competitive programs.  Prospective students must be accepted into a diploma program at which time the scholarship will be applied towards tuition costs.

Students must:

  • Be of Latino descent.
  • Be a Benton, Madison, Carroll or Washington County resident for at least one year.
  • Complete an interview with the LEAP Coordinator.
  • Have at least a 2.0 GPA as a senior in high school (or a minimum GED score of 501).
  • Maintain appropriate standards of conduct.
  • Be in good financial standing with NTI.
  • Complete scholarship application and submit required paperwork.

This scholarship pays for the tuition expenses of attending NTI for the entire program, regardless of the number of semesters of a particular program.  It does not cover fees, texts or course requirements such as scrubs, tools, etc.

The LEAP Scholarship is not renewable because it covers the entire program’s tuition.

  1. The prospective student initially arranges to meet with the LEAP Coordinator, who will assist the student in completing the application, as well as assist in the student in arranging to take the Compass test. Students can also learn about the various diploma programs, course expenses, and the FAFSA application
  2. The prospective student completes application which consists of:
    1. Completed application
    2. High school transcript (or GED transcript)
    3. One-page essay detailing why the student wants to study a particular career and his/her goals. There is not a length requirement.
    4. At least one letter of recommendation (teacher, volunteer program leader, church leader, employee, etc.)   Many students submit 2 – 4 letters of recommendation.
